Tips for Avoiding Scams and Frauds
General Information
  1. Check the links carefully and do not click on any of unsolicited links, which originate from some other website. It is important that you thoroughly check all links, which take you out of the Collabotrade.com.


  2. Phishing Scams: : A lot of companies and financial institutions have been targeted using Phishing technique wherein an email comes from the website administrator asking to carry out some maintenance on your account and requires you to click on the link provided in the email and enter the User ID and password. Please make sure you do not click on those links. In case of any suspicion, please forward us the contents of that email or contact us.


  3. To ensure your Password Security on Collabotrade.com
    DO NOT:
    • use any straight dictionary words (e.g. pumpkin, watermelon).
    • use of any proper nouns (e.g. New York, David).
    • use proper nouns with numbers (e.g. NewYork1, 123David).
    • use information which is personally related to you (e.g. favorite book, name of your school, vehicle plate number).
    • click any link in a suspicious e-mail, which request you to reveal personal or sensitive information.
    DO:
    • use an alphanumeric password with special characters (e.g. $ % #).
    • use a password which is at least 8 characters long.
    • use a password which you can memorize.
    • change your password at least once in 6 months.

  4. When a member or site visitor shows the interest in your posting, Collabotrade forwards you his or her message. Do not on click on any links that do not belong to Collabotrade. It could lead you to a third-party website, and you could end up in compromising your personal information or downloading viruses.


  5. Remember, Collabotrade does not offer any kind of buyer or seller protection programs or secure payment options. We recommend you to buy and sell in your own community only by meeting the person face to face. Therefore, if you receive any e-mails from any other website, including the ones that may carry Collabotrade logo, forward them to us or contact us using our online form. This could be a scam.


  6. Notify Collabotrade or any local official authority about any fraud or dubious ads, e-mails, or any other activity by community members.


  7. To protect your computer against any virus attacks, always keep your virus protection software up-to-date and scan your computer regularly.

Sellers and Service Providers
  1. First look out for buyers and service seekers within your community to ensure that you are transacting with someone who you can trust.


  2. If a buyer or service seeker contacts you, ensure that you meet him or her at a common place to make sure he or she is part of your community.


  3. Do not commit to sell the items or service until you meet the buyer or service seekers and go over all rules associated with the transaction.


  4. If you feel that the buyer or service seeker is too excited from the kind of language he or she has used in his or her email -- be careful. This could be a scam and you can become a victim of the same.


  5. Most scams involve either some person contacting you from a far off place and narrating a false story. Don’t entertain such calls. In case of any doubt, take their number, and call back.


  6. The suspicious behavioral trends include asking you to ship to an outside location or asking you to bring large orders to a distant location.


  7. Ensure that you share the contact details (phone numbers, mailing addresses etc.) with the buyers or service seekers only when he or she is ready to buy the items or service. Avoid providing your phone number with the classified advertisement, unless you are in hurry to sell the items.


  8. Before finalizing the deal, ask buyer or service seeker for a verifiable US telephone number.


  9. Do not accept wire transfer, check, or credit card payments.

Buyers and Service Seekers
  1. Collabotrade does not encourage usage of any of the online payment mechanism like:
    • Credit Card
    • Wire Transfer
    • Cash Transfer over the Internet

  2. Never share any personal or financial information to anyone. E.g. the following should be kept confidential all the time-
    • Social Security Number
    • Bank account numbers
    • Credit or Debit Card Numbers
    • Your Birthday
    • Your passwords and passcodes
    • Answers to all security questions

  3. Ensure that the seller or service provider belongs to your community so that the transaction is secure and trusted.


  4. Before finalizing the deal, ask the seller or service provide for a verifiable US phone number.


  5. If you feel that the seller or service provider is too excited from the kind of language he or she has used in the ad -- be careful. This could be a scam, and you can become a victim of the same.


  6. Similarly, if an offer sounds too good to be true, it probably is a scam. Use caution.


  7. Stay away from sellers or service providers, who ask you to make some upfront payment before the delivery of items or completion of services. This could be a fraud.


  8. Knowing the item features will enable you to tell if the item is genuine and you are buying the item at a fair price. Read the description carefully and do not make assumptions about details that aren't included in the item description.


  9. Make sure the item or service you are buying is legal and allowed. If you have any doubts, please contact us with the item or service Post ID.


  10. While used items are offered at fairly lower prices than new items, if some electronics items such as computers, cameras, cell phones are priced too low, these are likely to be refurbished or fake. Do extra research before you buy these items.


  11. Look at the seller's or service provider’s other classified advertisements to get an idea of what type of Seller or Provider he or she is.


  12. Do not release your contact information too early in the transaction cycle.


  13. Do not commit to buy the item or service until you look at it or understand all rules associated with it and met the seller or service provider.


  14. Do not wire transfer, write check, or send cash before you receive the item or service.
